August Building Report8/13/07 For the upcoming 2007-2008 school year WFHS has three foreign exchange students, Mengfan (Jenles) Wang from China, Elisa Blumberg from Germany and Kyoung Sin from South Korea. It is my evaluation that this is sufficient for the upcoming year and that we will be able to provide them with an appropriate educational and cultural experience. I request that they be admitted to WFHS and their tuition be waived. I have attached board policy JQKA and JQKA-R for your reference. |

Kansas math assessments were administered to the freshman, sophomores and juniors during the week of February 25th and the Kansas reading assessments were administered to the freshman and juniors during the week of March 3rd. The winter athletic awards night will be March 11th starting at 7pm. The spring sport season is underway for baseball, boy’s golf, softball and track. The first competitions will begin during the week of March 25th. During the league vocal competition the choir received a one rating. Individuals receiving a one rating as soloists were Jennifer Allender, Shelby Webb, Jasmine Phillips and Kristine Hempel. During the league band competition the band received a 2 rating and Kate Wildeman and Sami McMahon received two ratings as soloists Only 24 parents attended the parent teacher conferences in February. Possible reasons for the low attendance are an increased use of the PowerSchool system to acquire student’s current grades and parents using email to communicate with their children’s teachers. The last day of the third quarter was March 6th. The senior’s last day is May 9th and graduation will be on Saturday May 17th at 10am. April Building Report4/14/08 Pre-enrollment is completed and the schedule is being built for the 2008/2009 school year. Kansas math assessments were administered to the freshman, sophomores and juniors during the week of February 25th and the Kansas reading assessments were administered to the freshman and juniors during the week of March 3rd. It appears that we will not make AYP in math and reading when the scores are finalized next year. We are currently looking at ways to improve curriculum and instruction for next year. The juniors took the Social Studies and Science Assessments during the past month. This is the first year that these tests were administered statewide. This year’s results will help to create the cut scores that future students will be compared to. During the past Site Council and Staff Development meetings we have been using an environment scan to assist in developing West Franklin High School’s mission statement. This process will be completed by May in which time we will be able to share with the BOE the new mission statement for WFHS.
