Introduction to Family and Consumer Science (Intro to FACS)

Course Description: A comprehensive study of: relationships, goal setting, consumerism, nutrition and health, and creation. Hands-on activities as well as text study emphasize units of this class.

Course Description: Student will look at all aspects of wellness as it relates to the health of individuals. Emphasis is on nutrition and choices throughout the life cycle. Catering, consumerism, and lab experiences are part of the workplace hands-on activities. (Vocational)

Course Description: Student will study concepts relating to living independently such as management of budget resources of fixed, variable, and set-aside expenses. Lab activities help the student relate to the employment world and balancing resources. (Vocational)
Advanced Family and Consumer Science
Prerequisite: Nutrition and Wellness
Grade: 11-12
Status: 1 credit
Course Description: Student will look at all aspects of juggling work and family with consumerism in all units of study. Study units include wellness, nutrition, relationships, types of families through the life cycle, creation, and catering. (Vocational)

Course Description: Students explore types of families, roles and responsibilities in regard to communication about balancing work and family, handling child care responsibilities, consumerism, and working with young learners. The hands-on lab work includes creating lesson plans and working hands-on with children. (Vocational)

Course Description: Students will learn about different types and workings of day care facilities for enriching young children. Handling of challenges within the facility and with families is covered. Lab work would include creating and teaching age-appropriate themed lessons. (Vocational)
