MS Cross Country

The Flint Hills League Cross Country Championships were held on Thursday by Chase County, and West Franklin came in with a three-part sweep in mind.  The course was new to them, and strong winds blew over the grass, but any surprises were handled with strong minds and willing spirits.

The Falcons started off with the middle school girls race. This was the only division where the Falcons did not have enough runners for a team score, but their three sixth graders still battled hard through the race, with Briley Huggard earning a 10th place medal.

The middle school boys claimed the Falcons first team victory of the meet, and had their first individual champion. Paxton Smith won, followed closely by James Hill in 3rd and Kiel Flanary in 4th. Bowen Hamm earned himself a 10th place medal and Bryce Robinson followed in 13th. The boys team beat second place Wabaunsee by 18 points. 

Next up were the high school girls, looking to add to their string of league titles.

They were able to do much more than that. All 9 of the girls in the race finished in the top 20 places, led by Bailey Cameron in 3rd and Emma Cameron in 4th.  The girls achieved the four-peat, and made it 6 victories in the past 7 years.

The boys team knew this year was going to look a little different, but they were still planning to put on a show.  And that they did, placing 4 in the top 5 and 5 in the top 8.  Hunter Bailey coasted to the individual title, nearly a minute ahead of second place.  The storm of Falcons following him gave the boys their 4th team victory in the past 5 years.

The middle school athletes have completed their season, but the high school varsity runners have more to do.  Their regional meet will take place in Sabetha on Saturday, October 26th.
